We want to take a moment and acknowledge the passing of a friend and fellow martial artist, Frederick Gear. Fred was born and raised in New York, served in the United States Air Force and had a successful twenty year career at the Department of Housing and Urban Development. He was also a third degree black belt in Tomiki Aikido and student of Iaido and Kenbu as well.
Dedicated to the ways of Budo, Fred spent a lot of time visiting new dojos and learning everything he could from other styles and systems. Every time he came to class he was eager to learn and ready to work. He was also always ready to share an interesting story, offer some helpful advice or just make everyone laugh.
Fred will be missed by his family, both relatives by blood and the extended network of people who were lucky enough to know him. It’s with great sadness that we tell him goodbye and with great fondness that we will remember him.
